Tutu, seekor tikus tanah yang tidak kuat panas Matahari. Namun, ia senang karena bisa bermain di malam hari. “Sinar Bulan tidak kalah cantik dengan Matahari,” ucap Tutu bersemangat. ( Tutu is a mole that couldn’t stand the Sun’s heat. But, he is still happy because he can play out at night. “The Moon’s light is also as beautiful as the Sun,” says Tutu passionately. )
Ketika malam tiba, Tutu keluar dari rumahnya. Ia mendengar suara nyanyian dari Lala labu. Ia adalah labu kuning besar yang selalu tidur siang di tepi danau. “Kenapa kau bernyanyi di malam hari?” tanya Tutu. “Siang hari terlalu panas. Aku suka malam hari. Sinar Bulan membuatku ingin bernyanyi,” jelas Lala. Mereka pun menjadi teman akrab. ( When night falls, Tutu steps out of his house. He heard a singing by Lala the pumpkin. She is the big yellow pumpkin who is always asleep by the lake at day time. “Why are you singing at night?” Tutu asks. “The day time is too hot. I like the night. The Moon light makes me want to sing,” Lala explains. They then become best friends. )
Pada suatu malam, sinar Bulan tampak lebih redup dari biasanya. “Bulan sedang bersedih. Ayo, kita hibur dengan lagu!” ajak Lala. Tutu mengarang lirik yang bagus, dan Lala membuatkan melodi yang indah. Bulan pun kembali ceria mendengar lagu dari dua sahabat itu. ( One night, the Moon light looks dimmer than usual. “The Moon is sad. Come on, let’s entertain him with a song!” Lala asks. Tutu makes up a beautiful lyric, and Lala composes a melodious serenade. The Moon cheers up as he heard the song from the two friends. )
Suatu hari, terjadi hal yang mengejutkan. Matahari terus bersinar dan malam tak kunjung datang. “Lala, mengapa tak ada malam?” tanya Tutu ketakutan. “Aku tidak tahu. Ayo, kita tanya pada teman-teman,” jawab Lala khawatir. Ternyata, malam tak muncul karena Bulan bersembunyi. Ia sedih karena diejek Matahari. ( One day, something surprising happened. The Sun keeps on shining and the night is not falling. “Lala, why isn’t there night time?” asks Tutu in fear. “I don’t know. Come on, let’s ask our friends,” the concerned Lala replies. Apparently, the night isn’t falling because the Moon is hiding. He is sad from being taunted by the Sun. )
Tutu dan Lala mencari Bulan ke istana awan. “Aku tidak mau keluar! Matahari lebih cantik dariku. Sinarnya terang, sedangkan aku redup,” seru Bulan. “Tapi, kami menyukaimu dan semua makhluk hidup memerlukanmu. Sinarmu redup agar manusia bisa tidur, dan Matahari terang agar manusia bisa bekerja,” ujar Tutu dan Lala. ( Tutu and Lala are off to the palace of the clouds in search of the Moon. “I don’t want to come out! The Sun is more beautiful than I am. He shines brighter than the dim me,” says the Moon. “But, we like you and all of the living creatures need you. Your light is dim so that humans may sleep, and the Sun is bright so that humans can work,” reply Tutu and Lala. )
Akhirnya, Tutu dan Lala mendatangi Matahari. Matahari iri pada Bulan karena Tutu dan Lala lebih menyukainya sampai membuatkan lagu. “Kalian berdua sama-sama cantik dan dibutuhkan makhluk hidup. Kami suka malam hari karena tak tahan panas. Tapi, kami tidak membencimu, Matahari,” ucap Tutu dan Lala. Mereka pun membuat lagu untuk Matahari. Matahari gembira dan meminta maaf pada Bulan. ( Finally, Tutu and Lala came to the Sun. The Sun is envious to the Moon because Tutu and Lala like him more that they created a song for him. “Both of you are equally beautiful and are needed by all living things. We like the night because we can’t stand the heat. But, we don’t hate you, Sun,” agree Tutu and Lala. They then compose a song for the Sun. The Sun is happy and apologizes to the Moon. )
