Tahun 2016 masih tercatat sebagai tahun terpanas sejak abad ke-19 dan 2017 berada di posisi kedua. Copernicus Climate Change Service (lembaga yang mencatat perubahan iklim dunia) mencatat suhu rata-rata di permukaan Bumi pada 2017 sedikit lebih dingin dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya (2016), yakni sekitar 15,7 derajat Celcius atau 58,46 derajat Fahrenheit.

Tahun 2016, tahun terpanas pertama, disebabkan oleh El Nino, sebuah peristiwa alami yang melepaskan panas dari Samudra Pasifik setiap beberapa tahun sekali. Sedangkan tahun 2017 merupakan tahun terpanas kedua, meski tidak ada El Nino. Ini bisa dilihat dari menghilangnya es di laut Artik dan kering berkepanjangan di Eropa Selatan yang memicu kebakaran hutan di Portugal dan Spanyol. Peristiwa kebakaran hutan merupakan contoh gangguan yang sering terjadi saat iklim memanas. Semoga di tahun 2018 ini, tidak sepanas tahun 2016 dan 2017, ya, Kids.
