Usianya baru menginjak 16 tahun. Tapi Lewis Clarke punya keberanian yang amat besar. Remaja asal Bristol, Inggris ini berhasil melakukan perjalanan sejauh 1.130 kilometer untuk mencapai Kutub Selatan. Waktu yang ditempuh Lewis adalah 48 hari.

He is just 16 years old, but Lewis Clarke has a tremendous courage. This teen from Bristol, England, managed to travel 1,130 kilometers to reach the South Pole. The time Lewis took was 48 days.

Lewis berjalan kaki menarik kereta seluncur selama 9 jam dalam sehari. Ia bertahan dari suhu super dingin minus 50 derajat celcius. Ditambah lagi dengan tiupan angin berkecepatan 193 km/jam. Pada Sabtu (18/1) lalu, akhirnya Lewis tiba di Kutub Selatan.

Lewis walked his way pulling a sled for 9 hours a day. He withstood super cold temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius. To add to that, he braced winds gusting up to 193 km/hours. On Saturday (18/1), Lewis finally arrived at the South Pole.

“Kakiku sudah cukup lelah. Tapi sekarang aku di sini dan aku punya beberapa spaghetti bolognaise untuk menu makanku nanti di dalam tenda,” tutur Lewis kepada BBC. Akibat perjalanan ini, Lewis mengalami luka lecet di kakinya. Batuk karena perbedaan tekanan udara juga sempat dialami Lewis saat perjalanan.

“My feet are quite exhausted. But now I’m here and I have a couple of spaghetti bolognaise for my dinner in the tent later,” Lewis told the BBC. As a result to this journey, Lewis has scrapes in his feet. Lewis also experienced coughs due to air pressure differences on his way.

Namun, berbagai kendala tak mampu menghentikan tekad Lewis. Ia berani pergi ke Kutub Selatan karena ingin menggalang dana untuk The Prince’s Trust, sebuah lembaga amal di Inggris. Kini, Lewis sedang mengirimkan foto-foto bukti perjalanannya kepada Guinness World Records agar tercatat sebagai rekor dunia. Kamu hebat, Lewis!

However, the obstacles couldn’t stop Lewis on his tracks. He boldly went to the South Pole to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust, a charity organization in the UK. Today, Lewis is sending photographs of his trip as proof to the Guinness World Records so he could be a world record title holder. Way to go, Lewis!
