Dahulu kala, ada sebuah pohon eboni yang tumbuh di Hutan Hijau. Nama pohon eboni itu Hebo. “Aku ingin berguna bagi manusia seperti teman-temanku. Mereka bisa ditebang dan digunakan untuk membuat berbagai macam perabotan. Tapi, aku hanya bisa bernyanyi. Hmm…mungkin manusia yang datang ke Hutan Hijau akan senang mendengar nyanyianku,” kata Hebo. ( Once upon a time, lived an ebony tree that grew on the Green Forest. The ebony tree’s name was Hebo. “I want to be useful to the humans just like my friends. They can be cut for timber and make furnitures. But, I can only sing. Hmm… maybe the humans who come to the Green Forest will be pleased from my singing,” says Hebo.)
Pada suatu hari, ada tiga orang prajurit yang pergi ke Hutan Hijau. Mereka mencari pohon untuk ditebang. Ketika melewati Hebo yang besar dan hitam, mereka berhenti. Hebo sangat gembira melihat tiga prajurit itu memandangnya. “Aku harus bernyanyi untuk mereka!” kata Hebo. (One day, there are three soldiers going into the Green Forest. They are looking for a tree to cut. When passing by the big, black Hebo, they stopped. Hebo is so happy to see the three soldiers looking at him. “I have to sing for them!” says Hebo.)
Hebo menyanyikan lagu karangannya. “Kau dengar itu? Ada suara nyanyian!” kata seorang prajurit. “Pohon eboni ini bernyanyi!” seru prajurit lain. “Ayo, kita lari! Hutan ini mengerikan!” ajak prajurit ketiga. Tiga prajurit itu berlari keluar Hutan Hijau dan tidak pernah kembali. Hebo sedih sekali! (Hebo sings the song he made. “You hear that? There is a singing!” says one soldier. “This ebony tree is singing!” says the other. “Come, let’s run! This forest is scary!” asks the third soldier. The three soldiers run out from the Green Forest and never to return. Hebo is really sad!)
Karena kejadian itu, pohon-pohon yang lain tidak menyukai Hebo dan nyanyiannya. “Kau tidak pantas berada di sini! Nyanyianmu membuat manusia takut. Akibatnya, kami semua jadi dijauhi manusia!” seru sebuah pohon. (Because of that, the other trees don’t like Hebo and his singing. “You don’t deserve to be here! Your singing scares the humans. Now all humans don’t want us!” says one tree.)
Hebo menceritakan kesedihannya pada sahabatnya, peri hutan bernama Abel. “Apakah nyanyianku begitu buruk sampai semuanya membenciku? Aku tidak berguna!” tangis Hebo. “Sabarlah Hebo, aku yakin ada kebahagiaan untukmu!” kata Abel menghibur sahabatnya. (Hebo tells his sadness to his best friend, a forest fairy named Abel. “Is my singing so terrible that everyone hates me? I am useless!” Hebo cries. “Be patient Hebo, I’m sure there will be happiness for you!” says Abel, cheering his friend.)
Abel berkelana ke kota manusia, mencari cara membantu Hebo. Pada suatu hari, dia bertemu seorang pemuda yang tampak murung. “Mengapa kau bersedih?” tanya Abel. “Namaku Ola, pemain biola dari Kerajaan Gani. Aku sedih karena biolaku yang terbuat dari kayu eboni rusak!” keluh Ola. “Ada pohon eboni yang bisa membantumu, namanya Hebo!” kata Abel. (Abel wanders to the human town, looking a way to help Hebo. One day, he met a young man who looks gloomy. “Why are you sad?” asks Abel. “My name is Ola, a violinist from the Kingdom of Gani. I’m sad because my violin that’s made of ebony wood is broken!” Ola sighs. “There is an ebony tree that can help you, his name is Hebo!” says Abel.)
Ola segera mengajak Abel ke Istana Gani untuk bertemu Ratu Gani. Abel bercerita tentang Hebo pada sang Ratu. “Mari kita pergi ke Hutan Hijau,” ajak Ratu Gani. (Ola then takes Abel to the Palace of Gani to meet Queen Gani. Abel tells the story of Hebo to the Queen. “Let’s go to the Green Forest,” asks Queen Gani.)
Hebo menyanyi untuk Ratu Gani dan Ola. Ratu Gani dan Ola terharu. “Suaramu sama persis dengan suara indah biolaku yang rusak!” seru Ola. “Aku senang jika kalian mau menebangku dan menjadikanku biola!” seru Hebo gembira. (Hebo sings for Queen Gani and Ola. Queen Gani and Ola are touched. “Your voice is equal to the beautiful sound of my now-broken violin!” says Ola. “I would be happy if you cut me down and turn me into a violin!” says Hebo happily.)
Ratu Gani yang baik dan bijaksana memandang Hebo dan menggeleng. “Hebo, aku tidak bisa menebangmu. Aku dan Ola tidak tega melakukan hal itu,” kata Ratu Gani. “Benar sekali!” seru Ola setuju. “Sebagai gantinya, maukah kau tinggal di Kerajaan Gani? Nyanyianmu yang indah harus didengar oleh rakyatku!” pinta Ratu Gani. “Aku mau!” ucap Hebo terharu. “Syukurlah, Hebo!” seru Peri Abel gembira. Akhirnya, Hebo tinggal di Kerajaan Gani, membuat semua orang bahagia dengan nyanyiannya! (The kind and wise Queen Gani looks at Hebo and shakes her head. “Hebo, I can’t cut you down.
