Legenda dari Aceh (A Legend from Aceh)

Setiap harinya mereka menyanyi bahagia.
(A long time ago in the jungle, there lived a flock of parakeets with their leader, Parakit. They lived peacefully and prosperously. They sang happily every single day.)

(One day, a greedy hunter passed the jungle and accidentally heard the melodious song of the parakeets. “I’ll catch and sell them,” exclaims the hunter.)

Ketika para parkit sedang mencari makan, diam-diam si pemburu memberi perekat di sarang-sarang parkit.  (When the parakeets were looking for food, the hunter secretly put some adhesives on the parakeet’ nests.)

“Tenang! Kita pura-pura mati, si pemburu pasti akan meninggalkan kita!” kata Parakit. (When the parakeets returned, they were stuck on the adhesive! “What should we do, Parakit?” say the parakeets. “Calm down! Pretend that we are dead, the hunter will leave us for sure!” says Parakit.)

Krak! Burung-burung parkit terkejut sehingga mereka lupa jika sedang pura-pura mati. (The next day, the hunter saw the parakeets were laying still. However, he accidentally stepped on a twig. Crack! The parakeets were surprised and they forgot that they were supposed to pretend dead.)

(However, the parakeets couldn’t fly! The adhesives attached to their bodies were too sticky!” Hey parakeets! Since you’ve deceived me, I will eat all of you!” exclaims the angry hunter.)

(Parakit looked for ways to escape the hunter’s threat. “Wait a minute, among all the parakeets, my singing is the most beautiful one. You could sell me to the king!” exclaims Parakit. “Ummm …. That’s right! I’m definitely going to be rich!” says the hunter.)

(The hunter came to see the King and Parakit chirped him a beautiful melodies. The king lured and bought Parakit from the hunter at a high price! Parakit is now locked in the King’s gold cage. “I have to trick the King!” he exclaimed.)

Dia lolos! (Parakit pretended to be sick and die! Then the King ordered the palace to hold a funeral ceremony. A soldier opened the Parakit’s cage and bathed him. Parakit moved his body quickly, flapped his wings, and flied away from the palace! He escaped!)

(Parakit was back to the jungle. He was welcomed by the other parakeets. Later on, when human can leave their greedy natures, he and the other parakeets will sing again!)
