Diceritakan kembali dari Fabel Aesop (Retold From Aesop’s Fabel)

(One day, Berli the diamond was walking around. On his way, he met a black crow.)

“Aku sangat menyukaimu! (“I really like you! Diamonds are the most beautiful stones in the world,” says the crow. “Really?” asks Berli. “Of course! I like shiny things, and you’re the most glittering of all!” exclaims the crow again. “I am very happy with your compliment!” says Berli proudly.)

Berli berjalan lagi dan terkejut ketika mendengar suara gonggongan anjing. “Tolooong!” teriak Berli. “Maaf, aku membuatmu takut! Apakah kau batu berlian?” tanya si anjing. “Benar, aku batu berlian!” seru Berli. “Wah, aku selalu ingin bertemu denganmu! Mengagumkan sekali! (Berli walked again and was surprised when he heard the sound of a barking dog. “Heeelp!” shouts Berli. “I’m sorry, I’ve frightened you! Are you a diamond?” asks the dog. “Yes, I’m a diamond!” replies Berli. “Oh wow, I’ve always wanted to meet you! It’s amazing! You’re just like what my master says, very beautiful and shiny!” the dog praising Berli. “Then, I’m the most beautiful stone in the world!” says Berli jumping happily.)

(Berli continued his journey to the barn. It was dark already. “There’re many chickens living in this barn! They must certainly be fascinated with my beauty!” says Berli. “I will stay overnight in this barn, and when the sun shines on me tomorrow morning, I will certainly shine brightly!” says Berli.)

Keesokan paginya, sinar matahari menyinari Berli sehingga dia berkilau terang. Para ayam terkejut sekali. Seekor ayam jantan segera menyapa Berli. “Jadi… Kaulah yang berkilau menyilaukan!” kata ayam jantan. “Apakah kalian semua kagum padaku?” tanya Berli sombong. “Tidak! Karena kau bukan jagung! Jagung dapat membuat perut kami kenyang!” seru ayam jantan. “Pok-pok-pok!” Semua ayam di lumbung setuju. (The next morning, the sun shined on Berli and made him sparkles brightly. The chickens were very surprised. A rooster immediately greeted Berli. “So… It’s you who sparkles dazzlingly!” says the rooster. “Are you all amazed at me?” asks Berli arrogantly. “No! Because you’re not corn! Corn can make our stomach full!” exclaims the rooster. “Cock-a-doodle-doo!” All the chickens in the barn agreed.)

(Since then, Berli was never arrogant again. He learned a valuable lesson from the chickens. If something isn’t useful, no matter how beautiful it is, then it’s pointless!)  (Teks: Seruni/ Ilustrasi: Just For Kids/ Translator: Just For Kids)
